Bikepacking Taiwan

Returned home this week from a pretty insanely awesome adventure with my good friend Meghan in Taiwan. Currently she lives in Taipei which was the perfect catalyst for a trip to visit with her and get out a two-wheeled adventure. We started our trip by descending almost exactly 10k’ through Taroko Gorge. Those days of riding were a life highlight. Just WOW!!!! After that, Meg and I spent the next week on bikes cruising down the east coast of Taiwan, weaving in and out of the mountains, enlivened by cheers from locals as we rode by. We ate lots of gummy bears, cracked a 6 o’clock beer at camp every night, soaked in hot springs, dipped our toes in the ocean, ate “stinky tofu”, saw lots of monkeys and a wild boar, took the “scenic route” whenever possible (spoiler: it’s all scenic), snacked on bao buns from the bike, snapped some photos, and had a damn good time. It’s rare to find a travel partner, let alone a riding partner to share this sort of experience with, and still walk away feeling so full. Thank you Meg for navigating, translating, and being great company!

The whole ride was around 380 miles, but who’s counting?!
